Retrograde Ejaculation
Share
Retrograde ejaculation occurs when, during orgasm, semen, instead of exiting through the penis, goes to the bladder and is then expelled through urine. Yes, that's right, when you ejaculate, you ejaculate "inward," which is why it's called retrograde ejaculation. Retrograde ejaculation does not affect the ability to have an erection or reach climax , although it's possible that the amount ejaculated may be very little or that there may be no semen at all.
Although it can be very annoying and stressful, the reality is that it's not harmful to a man's health. The problem is that since ejaculation isn't through the penis, the chance of getting a woman pregnant is very small , although not impossible, as there's still the possibility of ejaculating something.
There are several conditions that can cause retrograde ejaculation:
-Surgery, on the bladder or prostate
-Nerve damage caused by diabetes, multiple sclerosis, or other diseases.
- The most common cause of retrograde ejaculation is the side effects of some medications used to treat BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia, or enlarged prostate), especially alpha-blockers. Examples include tamsulosin, silodosin, alfuzosin, and doxazosin.
Here I want to emphasize that retrograde ejaculation caused by medications is completely reversible once the drug has been discontinued.
Prevention:
If you take medications or have health problems that put you at risk for retrograde ejaculation, ask your doctor what you can do to reduce your risk. In many cases, medications can be changed to prevent this condition.
